Center for Justice Announces New Executive Director

PROVIDENCE, RI May 3, 2017 – The Rhode Island Center for Justice announced Jennifer Wood as the Center’s next Executive Director today. The Rhode Island Center for Justiceis a non-profit public interest law center that partners with community groups to strengthen existing advocacy and service provision with legal representation and strategy. The Center’s legal practice areas, including housing, immigration, and workers’ rights, reflect the most pressing needs of low-income people in our state. In collaboration with Roger Williams University School of Law, the Center brings together new lawyers, supervising legal staff, community groups, mentoring attorneys, and law students to support community groups in their efforts to expand justice and opportunity for all Rhode Islanders.
“Jennifer Wood’s background as a legal services lawyer and lawyer in private practice representing individuals to vindicate education rights, disability rights and employment rights, as well as her extensive work in state government relating to education, health and human services over more than two decades makes her an ideal leader for the Center for Justice at a time when basic rights are under significant challenge,” said Miriam Weizenbaum, Esq. Chair of the R.I. Center for Justice Board.

Center for Justice at this critical time,” said Wood. “Working with community groups to identify and address the most significant challenges to economic and social justice for vulnerable individuals, families and communities in Rhode Island is the Center’s mission and I am excited to be working with the staff and Board of the Center, our community partners and the Roger Williams University Law School to advance that mission.”
Wood is a graduate of Brown University and Northeastern University School of Law and has over three decades of public interest law experience in Rhode Island.
