Center for Justice Welcomes Fall Externs from RWULaw

The Center for Justice is pleased to welcome Darnae Wells and Jorge Ghazal as externs this fall through Roger Williams University School of Law (RWULaw).  Jorge and Darnae play an important role in the office conducting intake and initial follow up in a number of program areas.

Darnae is a third year law student at RWULaw. Originally from Baltimore Maryland, she became interested in law in high school. Growing up in Baltimore Maryland, she witnessed first-hand the way that the legal process can overlook our most vulnerable populations; she also witnessed the ways that the law and the right lawyer can help empower communities.  She is drawn to public interest work because she believes that, “the impact I can have as a lawyer is greater when I help a client find their own voice.” Darnae is an active member of her class, serving as President of the Black Law Student’s Association, 3L Representative on the Student Board Association, and as a board member on the Multicultural Law Student’s Association. She also dedicates time to various community outreach projects such as; Street Law, Catholic Relief Services and The Urban Debate League. After law school Darnae plans move back to Baltimore and eventually establish a non-profit organization that handles criminal appeals for indigent clients.

Jorge Ghazal is a third-year student at RWULaw. Raised in Venezuela, Jorge brings to the Center his multi-language speaking abilities and a desire to help those who are most in need of legal advocacy. At the Center for Justice Jorge works with the attorneys in the office to advocate for Rhode Islanders who are experiencing utility termination or are at risk of utility shut-off.  In addition, he assists low-income workers in Rhode Island who are fighting for fair compensation under Rhode Island law.
